Extracurriculars

My extracurricular involvement takes up a majority of my time. Participating in these opportunities at IUPUI and in other experiences around the city has shaped me into who I am today! Here are some of my time-consumers:

IUPUI Women's Soccer

  • Captain of IUPUI Women's Soccer Team

  • Commit 40+ hours per week to practice, games, travelling, preparation, etc.

  • Requires a great deal of balance between scholastics, personal life, and athletics

  • Leadership responsibilities require extra communication with coaches/team, greater time commitment, conflict resolution.

PLTL Leader

During the semester, I assisted in leading students in a general chemistry course in the Department of Chemistry at IUPUI. I worked with the professor to develop teaching strategies that would help students succeed. Some responsibilities of this role are listed below:

  • Guide students through answering challenging chemistry-related questions.

  • Helped facilitate a positive learning environment for a group of students to work together to solve a problem.

  • Required adaptability, teaching skills, collaboration, listening, etc.

Riley Children's Hospital Volunteer

I recently started volunteering in the emergency department at Riley Children's Hospital. Here, I help out by seeking to fulfill the patients needs and keep their level of comfort up during their stay. I personally take a liking to the high-speed, constantly moving environment. Being in a healthcare environment and getting the opportunity to help others has given me a sense of fulfillment in the time I've volunteered. Some duties include:

  • Doing rounds of the ED rooms to tend to patient needs.

  • Assisting nurses with patient duties when necessary.

  • Supplying patients with water, coffee, blankets, distraction items such as toys, and more.

  • Ensuring our team has answered the "What Matters Most?" question to maximize our patients' experiences to the best of our ability.

  • Restocking toy cart, warm blankets, pillows, etc.

Undergraduate Research

I work at the STARK Neuroscience Research Institute here in Indianapolis. I am an undergraduate researcher under PI Dr. Jodi Lukkes. Here, we study the effects of adolescent alcohol drinking in rats as well as looking at the Nf1 ADHD effects in mice through a variety of tests.
